Pana man named "Sailor of the Year"

Navy Petty Officer Troy Cloe Jr., from Pana, was named "Sailor of the Year" in a December 9th luncheon at Naval Base Kitsap in Washington state. Macoupin County History Book

The Macoupin County Historical Society plans to sponsor a county history book that will be published in 2015. The primary content of the book will be family histories that will be limited to 500 words. There will also be a general history of Macupin County included. (Springfield)--According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois hunters harvested over seventy six thousand five hundred deer during the seven day firearm hunting season. A Litchfield man faces several charges after a single vehicle accident Saturday northeast of Gillespie. According to Illinois State Police, 49 year old Jimmy Darrah was driving a 1999 Acura westbound on Rt 16 at Franke Road when he lost control of the car at 2:07am. Deer Season Totals Down

Macoupin County and state wide totals from the first part of the 2014 firearm deer season show a continued decline in the number of deer harvested. Statewide totals show 51, 830 deer were harvested last weekend. In 2013, nearly 56,000 deer were taken in the first part of the season.  Read more...

(Riverton)--A 17 year old Springfield teen was killed in a two vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Riverton. According to Illinois State Police a girl was driving a S-10 pick up eastbound on Old Route 36, at 4th Street in Riverton. Reportedly she lost control on the slick roadway, and collided with a westbound Jeep Cherokee.  Read more...

The Director of the Illinois Secretary of State Police and former mayor of Carlinville has died. 50 year old Bradley Demuzio of Springfield was pronounced dead Sunday at 2:55pm at his residence. According to the Sangamon County Coroners Office, an autopsy was performed and Demuzio‘s death was consistent with natural causes.  Read more...

Train Accident Kills Three in Vandalia

(Vandalia)--Three members of a famliy were killed when their SUV was struck by a freight train at a crossing. Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen says a woman, a boy and a girl were killed in Thursday's accident in Vandalia. Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says two other people in the vehicle were airlifted to a hospital.  Read more...
