Tax Extenders
Wed, 16 Jun 2010 6:02:39 CDTCongressional Quarterly
reports Senate Democrats still don’t have the 60 votes needed to advance the tax
extenders measure. Details haven’t been discussed - but it appears moving the
bill forward will require significant changes. The biggest sticking point
remains the impact the legislation would have on the federal deficit. Maine
Republican Olympia Snowe, Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson and other moderates want
more of the bill to be paid for. A procedural vote is scheduled for this
(Wednesday) morning - but Tuesday afternoon - Majority Leader Harry Reid said he
was trying to reach an agreement with Republicans to avoid it.
